Our Story
THE HISTORY OF SILK
Silk has been thoughtfully crafted in China for centuries, it was first discovered in China over 5,000 years ago when the princess Xi Ling Shi discovered that a cocoon could be unravelled to produce a thread when one dropped into her tea whilst sat under a mulberry tree. The princess then had the thought of weaving the thread into long stretches of luxurious material. From this historical moment, the people of China named the princess a goddess and silk was used as a method of payment and a form of currency trade between China and foreign countries. China is the biggest manufacturer of silk, and the people of China are extremely proud to call their country the home of the best silk in the world. At jasmine silk we aim to continue the tradition of silk production at an exceptional standard and keep the history of the luxury material alive. Cultural heritage is extremely important to us, and we maintain the history by manufacturing our own silk using highly skilled craftsmen who have inherited their knowledge about sericulture and have a passion to follow on the traditional Chinese methods of silk making.
WHY WE STARTED
Jasmine Silk Ltd was founded in 2008 when Leon, a postgraduate, crossed paths with Olivia during their studies at Bath University. United by their shared Chinese heritage and a desire to showcase the luxurious essence of traditional silk to the world, Leon and Olivia embarked on a journey together. Recognising the transformative potential of mulberry silk in the bedding and beauty industries, the devoted couple set out to make high-quality silk accessible to everyone in the UK.
Driven by their passion for natural fabric silk, Leon and Olivia understood the challenges faced by consumers in obtaining premium silk at reasonable prices and made it their mission to address this gap in the market.
Their vision extended beyond the borders of the UK, as they sought to share the gift of silk with people worldwide. For over 15 years, Jasmine Silk has been spreading the beauty of silk and its benefits internationally, now more people than ever have the opportunity to experience its remarkable effects.

THE BENEFITS OF SILK
At Jasmine silk we’ve made sure to make all our products easy to care for and that’s why, our silk sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, and duvets are all machine washable! You would have heard by now just how good silk can be for your hair and skin. Due to its smooth texture, silk helps to prevent frizz, tangles, and breakage, promoting shiny, healthy hair. Silk is also moisture repellent which absorbs significantly far less face cream than the standard cotton pillowcase, so you can be sure your face creams are working that extra bit harder whilst you sleep. This breathable, temperature regulating, natural fibre is also hypo-allergenic and repellent to dust mites so it’s ideal for allergy-sufferers.
